Lesson formats

Three ways to take a lesson

Lesson length and format come first. Your teacher will suggest the right one.

  • Private lessons

One student with one teacher, for 30, 45 or 60 minutes each week.

    • 30, 45 or 60 minutes

    • Any instrument

  • Shared lessons

Two students of a similar level with one teacher, for 45 or 60 minutes.

    • 45 or 60 minutes

    • Two students

  • Group classes

The Saturday ukulele circle and the rhythm classes, in groups of up to 8.

    • Saturday and Wednesday

    • Not made up when missed

How tuition works

We give you the figures in writing at the placement visit. Here is what sets them, and how everything else works.

  • What sets tuition

Four things set tuition: the length of the lesson, whether it is private, shared or a group class, the teacher's level and the program. Your teacher will suggest the right mix.

    • Lesson length: 30, 45 or 60 minutes

    • Private, shared or group

    • Weekly lessons, a term at a time

  • Registration

A yearly registration covers your student file, the placement visit and scheduling. It is due when you hold a weekly time, and the front desk gives you the figure in writing.

  • Billing

Tuition is billed monthly or a term at a time, by card or bank transfer, with automatic payment if you choose it. A monthly plan covers the whole term.

  • Help with tuition

Financial aid is available. Ask us how to apply when you book your placement visit, and we will talk it through in private.

  • Siblings

A second student in the same family is handled differently. Ask the front desk at the placement visit.

  • Withdrawing

We ask for a month's notice before a student's last lesson, in writing or by email, so we can offer the time to the waitlist. A term in progress is settled with the front desk.

  • Missed classes and make-ups

A lesson you cancel with a day's notice is made up with your teacher. A lesson a teacher cancels is always made up. Group classes are not made up.

  • Uniforms, costumes and other costs

Instrument rental by the term, music books your teacher chooses and recital programs are extra. We tell you what each one is, and how it is billed, at the placement visit.
